These standards describe how The New German reports, writes, and publishes. They apply to every article on this site.
Accuracy and sourcing
We base our reporting on verifiable sources: official documents, statistics, direct statements, established German and international news organisations, and people with first-hand knowledge. Where our reporting builds on German-language sources, we link to the original so readers can check it themselves. If we cannot verify a claim, we do not publish it.
News and opinion are separate
News articles describe what happened and what it means for internationals in Germany. Opinion and analysis pieces are clearly labelled as such. We do not mix the two in a single article without telling you.
Independence
The New German is reader-funded. Editorial decisions are made by the editorial team alone — never by advertisers, political parties, or interest groups. If an article touches an area where we have a personal or financial interest, we disclose it.
Use of AI tools
We use AI tools to support research, translation, and drafting. Every article is reviewed, fact-checked, and approved by a human editor before publication, and the editorial team takes full responsibility for everything we publish.
Mistakes
When we get something wrong, we correct it quickly and visibly. How to report an error and how we handle corrections is described in our Corrections Policy.
